Netflix seldom produces docu-series on India for its 500 million viewers around the
globe. But something very inspiring drew its attention – the captivating story of five
young girls from southern India’s poorest families as they attempt to overcome personal
hurdles and embrace the opportunities of a modern progressive world. Directed by
Oscar Award winning film-maker Vanessa Roth, and music composed by the acclaimed
artist A.R. Rahman, this four-part documentary brings out, in its rawest form, the human
drama of the social underclass and their dreams and hopes
.
The author, Shilpa Raj, is among the five girls whose life-stories are presented in the

Netflix will begin streaming the film from July 28, 2017 in over 100 countries in over 30
